Throughout the year Guild members share their hand-building and throwing skills at public events by running have-a-go sessions for children and adults, as well as showing more advanced and technical skills through demonstrations. Since 2019, when DCPG members brought clay to the centre of St Albans, working with the St Albans Museum and Gallery and the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans on a Big Clay Day at the Museum and Gallery which stimulated the highest number of visitors in one day since their opening, we have held regular “big builds” as part of the Alban Festival in June.
We hold hand-building events during the school holidays, at the Chiltern Open Air Museum (COAM) as part of the Museum’s ‘Terrific Tuesdays’ for children.
Another regular date for the Guild is the Boxmoor Trust Autumn Festival on Blackbird Moor, Hemel Hempstead where we run a hand building workshop alongside sales of members’ work.
Our Annual exhibition of Members’ work at Kingsbury Barn, St Albans in September includes workshops for local primary school children and occasional demonstrations, See our Instagram post for photos: https://www.instagram.com/p/B2ZsIvOA7J-/
